The first Tesla Roadster was delivered in February 2008. The company produced 500 similar vehicles through June
2009. In July 2009, Tesla began production of its 2010 model-year Roadster - the first major product upgrade since
Tesla began production in 2008. There were significant upgrades to the suspension, heating & air conditioning
systems, and the interior was upgraded with push button gear selector and many other design changes. A suite of
sound deadening measures was also incorporated.
Simultaneously, in July 2009 Tesla began delivering the higher performance Roadster Sport, the first derivative of
Tesla's proprietary and patented powertrain. The original cost of the Roadster Sport upgrade option was $19, 500.
The major component was the new adjustable dampers and a new hand-wound motor, capable of 0 - 60 mph (0 - 97 km/h)
in 3.7 seconds vs 3.9 seconds for the standard model. The motor produces 299 hp at 4, 400- 6, 000 rpm, with a max rpm
of 14, 000. The top speed is 125 mph and the maximum range is 245 miles on range mode and 185 miles on standard
mode. There are numerous design features that identify the Sport upgrade.
Tesla Motors only built approximately 2, 600 Roadsters by the conclusion of its production in 2012. It is not known
how many of the 2, 600 cars were sold in the US, but it is estimated to be less than 2, 000. The highly desirable
Sport model is rare and estimated to be less than 500 cars.
The original sticker of this car shows a price as configured of $146, 457. The options are: Premium Paint ($2, 000),
Solar Guard Windshield ($400), Floor Mats ($150), Electronics Group ($3, 000), Premium Interior ($1, 800), Executive
Leather ($6, 000), Tesla Paint Armor ($1, 495), Roadster Sport Upgrade ($19, 500), $240V Universal Connector ($1, 500).
The invoice to the original owner was $157, 671. A hard top, extended warranty and a 70 amp charging station were
added.
Included are:
all three available charging connectors (a wall-mounted 240 volt 70 amp, a portable 240 volt 40 amp, and a
portable 120 volt 15 amp connector (cable that can plug into any standard electric socket)
black Tesla car cover
original Owner’s Manual & tool pack
canvas top that can replace hard top
original and very rare purchase documentation (Reservation Agreement, Invoice, marketing materials, original
sticker, CA EV stickers)
2 original Tesla key fobs
I am the second owner. The original owner is a well-known music “mogul” located in Beverly Hills. I have an
article from the New York Times in which he describes the car as the fastest car he has ever owned – given his
high-performance car collection, that statement is significant!
The car has always been serviced by Tesla and all records are available. The annual Tesla service (the entire car
is inspected and serviced) was completed in October 2015 with no issues reported. The battery was replaced by Tesla
on September 17, 2012.
The car is all original with no modifications. I do not believe the car has ever experienced a rain drop! It is
near perfect cosmetically with one scratch in the front bumper caused by a rock. I believe the scratch is just to
the plastic Tesla Paint Amor covering (similar to a “clear bra”). There is also a very minor scratch to the
rear bumper. Both are shown in the photographs and most likely easily fixed by a quality detail shop. The CARFAX
history report is clear with no issues ever being reported.
Given this car’s pristine condition, the low 2, 120 miles, black on black color combination as well as the rare
and highly desirable “Sport” upgrade make the future appreciation potential of this car very strong! This is a
highly collectible car that you can purchase for a fraction of the original cost, but most important ….. the car
is truly awesome to drive!
